#1 LEVEL UP THE UK GAMES FUND
The UK Games Fund does brilliant work on behalf of the sector for budding developers. But it’s far too small at only £1 million a year. We need to expand it as the returns in terms of high productivity jobs and growth can be massive.
#2 POWER UP INFRASTRUCTURE
Games developers need top notch fibre connectivity to create the best games of tomorrow right here in the UK. But only 10% of the UK has access to full fibre. I want to speed that up.
#3 DEFEND VGTR
The tax relief provides much needed support for developers as they make the smash hits of tomorrow. And for every £1 we spend on it, the UK gets £4 back. That’s a no brainer – it has my support.
#4 TRAIN THE NEXT GENERATION
The UK games industry is growing, and needs more people with the right skills to do the jobs created. I’d work to find the best way to get creative skills back into the curriculum, implement 2011 NextGen Skills Report recommendations, and use innovative routes like apprenticeships and University Technical Colleges.
#5 RECOGNISING ESPORTS
Esports are booming worldwide, and I know the UK can be a leader. I want a Government Minister with responsibility for growing esports and bringing major events to the UK.
#6 VISA CLARITY FOR ESPORTS
I hear too many horror stories of top tier players and talent not being able to attend events here in the UK. We have to be transparent with the rules so businesses in the sector can thrive.
#7 EDUCATE POLITICIANS
Too many politicians don’t understand the enormous value of our sector. So if I enter the House of Commons, I’ll make it my mission to teach them what games and esports do for the UK.
#8 KEEP US IN EUROPE
The UK’s membership of the EU gives the UK games and esports industries so much. Access to talent, free flow of data, and freedom of movement. I’m unequivocal – the EU is good for games and esports.
